- The death toll of Ebola has reached 1,000 in Sierra Leone. The population there is 5, 743, 725 (as of July 2014). That means that 1 out of every 5,744 (this was rounded) people is dead from Ebola.
- The Ebola outbreak doubles in size every MONTH.
- An estimated $1,000,000,000 is needed to provide the necessary supplies to fight the disease. Countries have only pledged a quarter of that amount so far.
- The disease is so contagious that, in most afflicted areas, touching others is not allowed for fear of spreading Ebola. In Sierra Leone, health officials are recommending that infected people be treated in their own homes because there is not enough hospital space.
